P2MP systems may work in a range of frequency bands, creating a sector of coverage from a single hub point that backhauls traffic from nodes located at other sites.
Advocates of P2MP say it offers increased spectral efficiency over P2P systems because it allows bandwidth to be shared across sites in a sector, rather than allocated in a dedicated fashion across one link.
This allows P2MP systems to distribute resources where needed within a sector, and respond to the “bursty” nature of data traffic.
