The mobile network is constantly evolving. Multiple radio access technologies now operate in single RAN or overlay architectures. WiFi and small cells are being integrated within networks to meet demands for indoor and outdoor coverage and capacity. Backhaul networks are operating at higher capacities, and migrating from TDM to IP, requiring new classes of products and capabilities. In the core network and supporting systems. Across all of this is the requirement for assurance and verification, for optimisation and control of the network.
As if this flux wasn’t enough, we are facing a restructuring of the network through the impact of virtualisation, and through the adoption of SDN.
Mapping The Mobile Network aims to act as a navigational chart for those sailing through these swirling waters.
We’re starting out with an initial vision of the network, slicing it into sections as simply as possible, and then looking at elements within that section.
Want to find out who does what in the mobile network? Click through to the element and we will tell you what that element does in the network, show you where it fits in the network, and give you a list of products and tell you which companies supply them.
This is a project that we will build. We will add more sections, more elements, and more detail, as we go – building up a picture of the network.
